Abbot Kalsang Gyaltsen studied Buddhist philosophy at the Great Dialect School in the Drepung Loseling Monastery for about twenty years. After completing his work there, he stayed a year in the Gyu De Monastery, where he learned tantric Buddhism. During that time he guided the younger monks.
