The study of the teachings in the sutras and the commentaries is indeed critical. A master who teaches people must dive deeply into the sutras and truly understand them. One will be clueless about Buddhism if one does not understand the teachings in the sutras and commentaries. A person without a clue will, for sure, carelessly and wrongfully compile stuff that he or she does not understand and teach people that. As such, he or she will lead Buddhist practitioners on the evil paths and cause them to devolve into the realms of sin and evil without a doubt. Even the Buddhist sites which this type of masters build will meet dark karma.
